If it was killed on that road you are correct on the lucky sob statement. I dream of that day.

Statement stands, road or no road!!

Quince great to have a good spotter indeed... would love to hear the story. I almost walked straight into a doe and a fawn yesterday until my spotter grabbed me and stopped me. She's a moody doe too, probably would have kicked my ass lol

Was he beaded down when your spotter spotted him?

Dunno about the body fat, but certainly looks healthy!

I got one about that size with very little fat on him. Lean young and delicious.

The fat thing depends food sources and travel habits. The archery season buck I took this year was by far the fattest BT I've harvested but he was pretty much living in a Costco for deer. I think most BT bucks will be losing fat chasing does and then go back to nonstop grazing after the rut to put on fat for the winter months.

most of the BT's ive taken were lean as well ,didn't matter young or older bucks. These BT put the miles on in search of breeding partners and they love the steeper benched hillsides= lots of exersize. At this time of the yr theyll have an extensive scrape line that has to be maintained and checked every couple days so their moving steady.

This time of year some of the deer I have shot have little fat, but saying that I have been with my buddy when he shot a 4 point and it was thick with fat.

Compared to a whitetail for instance blacktails have quite a bit less fat all things being equal IME. I've got some up high that had next to no fat on them just a little skiff on their back. Still very healthy animals at that stage and awesome eating as yours will be enjoy..

Started hunting down here last year. Have seen lots of bucks, but this was the only one I have been able to get a shot off on.

The winters here are short compared to where muledeer and whitetail live. The whitetail that I shot this year had almost 2" of fat on it's back end. Of all the coastal blacktails that I have taken not to many have fat. And I have shot lots of them.

Nice blacktail 84. I do hope you get it scored. And people do not bother you trying to find where you shot it. Keep us informed of the score. And get it in the B.C Record Book.
