Hey guys I just spent the weekend in sun peaks village. (Not a hunting trip) but I still brought the rifle... Wondering if anyone has had any luck or seen anything in this area ? Below the village Knouff lake Rd area? Or above it ? With a nice place to stay could make for a good trip next season . first time up here and will not get a chance to explore the back roads. Any feedback would be great .

Ive seen bucks from my truck, driving along Knouff Rd (to Sun Peaks from Kamloops). This was second week of December, and snow had just started hitting the village. I was in snowboard mode though, and didnt have a rifle (and wasnt up to speed on the regs for the area).

Anybody here about the new bylaws around sunpeaks? apparently no shooting in any of the rec area on the mountain? 4000 acres or something which supposedly supersedes the old no shooting within 400m of ski lifts. could be wrong, just wondering if anybody else has heard of this and possibly has some clarification?

Pretty slow hunting mostly does and skidish whitetails the natives and other locals keep the numbers way down.
I would recommend big white if hunting from a resort.

The regs state no hunting within 400m of a ski lift but as of 2010 the municipality bylaws of the controlled recreation area say no shooting or hunting or offroad vehicles (except on existing roads) within the CRA. all the boundaries can be found on front counter BC but i marked them permanently on my google earth. 7km top to bottom same side to side.

Thanks Firstblood, I was not aware of the bylaw only of the 400m from ski lift regulation. I bumped into some hunters near the NW boundary shown on your map and they had been hunting there way up from what looks like the no hunting area on your map, so apparently I wasn't the only one who didn't know. I had bushwacked my way in to the north alpine area and upon asking them which way they came I'm pretty sure it was from the S / SE. Funny that this comes up now as about 4 hours ago I was day dreaming about checking things out up there in the spring!

PS - All I saw in my short trip up there was 1 doe and 2 humans! Was thinking it might be a nice area to go for a hike and look for a spring bear though. I don't like hunting spots with too many animals around like to just focus on the beautiful scenery

I've hunted 3-27 a lot--I grew up in that MU--and while there is a lot of game in there, there's a lot of pressure unless you get off the beaten path. Last fall I counted 8 trucks with hunters on the McGillivray Lake Road between Sun Peaks and Niskonlith. Even at the place I like to go in that area, which is a bit off the beaten path, all I managed to see where a handful of does, and they were all on high alert, as if they had been hunted.

Yeah you have to look hard to find out the bylaw, I came across it while doing a project for uni on land use management and CRA tenure land leases.

The hunting is good early season but by end of October there could be tons of snow. see my above post about access and luxury hunting accommodations haha.

Appreciate the Map firstblood. had some family move up to the resort this year so figured i could knock out two birds with one stone and get a visit and a hunt in. and the lux accommodation, as odd as it would be on a hunting trip for me, wouldnt be a bad thing i suppose
