Finally got myself a bear this afternoon. He's no "Beer Belly" or "Big Okanagan Blackie", but he'll do for my first. Real nice coat on him too.

All of you guys should be jumping on the maple leaf bandwagon pretty soon. I don't imagine you'll be able to take choking in the playoffs for much longer.

Anyway, there wasn't much of a story on this bear. But after a few weeks of hunting hard without seeing too many bears I finally got the chance on this one in a 2-year old presribed burn area just past a road closure. It was the middle of a hot, dry afternoon when I saw him walking the sidehill in the burn. I hit him at just over a hundred yards up the hill through the shoulders with the ol' .270. He ran about 30 feet and stopped and reared up on his back legs a bit and I gave him another one for good measure.
