Hey folks,

So I got my first Doe of the season and I am wondering when can a hunter reasonably expect to be able to go back to the same spot after a kill? Blood and gut pile left behind on the kill spot. Texada has a large population of deer on it, so does it really matter especially being open season for both bucks and doe? I would like to go to the same spot because I feel it is a hot spot.

HAHA Thanks,

I use it to get to get to all the sweet spots on Texada and it helps to carry them out.

Nice job on Texada! You got the ticket there. A bike would be perfect there. Now you got me thinking lol

Not sure about blacktail but I can say it didn't bother the three whitetail we shot a couple weeks ago. Hours apart in exactly the same spot.

Great pic, nice grub steaks. Had an island deer lick a gut bag of a deer I gutted day previous. Doesn't make a lick of difference it seems.

Kind of tough to judge the size from a picture. Obviously deer on Texada aren't known for their massive size but was wondering if anyone has an idea of the average weight of a mature blacktail doe/buck on the island?

Smelling death is part of life for animals, they could care less about the gut pile. There are lots of animals dieing every year of natural death, nothing new to them.

Congrats on the deer. Love the photo. I think a photo of you riding your bike with the deer mounted like that would be worth posting and interesting. lol.
I don't think it matters if you wait or not. As was posted above, deer (and elk) will walk right in to a kill. I think they smell the killed animal more that the person. Good luck and can't wait for more photos.
