You folks have given me good advice in past so I thought I'd toss this question out. I want to buy a Christmas present for a good friends little boy. He is just abit over 3y.o., smart as a whip. They live up north and his dad is a serious hunter. He has more trophy animals than you can imagine. Anyway the kid wants a toy rifle for Christmas. I am looking for something safe for his age, sturdy, and "cool" for a three year old.Ideally , I would love a wooden rifle with smooth edged metal fittings, a clicker trigger, All I can find so far is plastic junk. Thanks!

My youngest of three is around the same age as your buddies kid. I just recently bought them all (1 to share) a RUGER Rascal .22 cal. About $170 and is super small and fits the young ones just right. I know its a little more than a toy gun, and likely out of the budget range, but good to keep in mind.

I know it is stereotypical (a christmas story), but I got my niece a Red Ryder BB gun when she was about that age. It was a little long so i cut the stock off. I was actually quite surprised at how accurate and powerful it was. It will go clean through a pop can at 10yds. It taught her basic gun safety, but the lever was stiff enough that she couldn't operate it herself.

The rascal is made by savage. I bought my daughter one last year and it is a dandy little rifle, had the accutrigger and all.

Surplus Herbies sells small wooded guns that shoot elastics. He will have fun with that if they have a cat, lol.
