So it finally happened after being out every weekend since September first I was finally able to put down my first deer . Friday night at 2:30am decided to head up to region 8 with a buddy for a quick day and a half hunt . We ended up arriving at a spot we thought may produce at around 6:30am so perfect timing minus the no sleep part .Parked the truck took two steps out and right away 8 doe walk out of a bush right beside me , clearly a good sign so we started to hike around a fairly exposed ridge and as soon as we hit the peak I spotted another heard of about 12 does and fawns .We worked this area all morning but kept seeing doe after doe . Mid day we decided to find a new spot as there was tons of ground to cover . Around 12 I hit a patch of cell service and got a call from
a friend who was a local up there and offered to take me to some spots he thought might have a better chance of producing a deer , obviously me not being from around there I jumped at the opportunity . Met up with him around 2 and hit a new area covered a lot of ground but saw nothing from for several hours . We then started down a few dead end roads when we started to spot a fair number of does around 5:30 , headed back where we had came from when my buddy spotted the siloette of something moving on a hill 1000 plus yards away . We glassed for a 15 minutes and kept seeing does go over this hill until the last one came out all I hear is "buck" and im already on my way up the hill haha. The buck seemed to disappear and my buddy advised me to return back down the hill as he assumed the buck had bolted but that's not something I can do once I spot a buck lol adrenaline pumping I carried on not to mention it was near impossible to be silent with all the dead fall I thought for sure anything animal in the area was long gone until I spotted anther doe who didn't seem to be very concerned I was heading towards her. Followed the doe to the top where it flattened out and my gut told me to
go towards a small patch of trees that was in the middle of the cut .No less than 10
seconds after deciding to head that way a nice 2 point steps out of no where with a doe . My heart starts racing as I scope in , but at the same time I was panicking cause I couldn't steady my hand for a shot from excitement. I took a deep breath and fired having no idea if I would be able to hit it . As soon as I fired the buck look at me and kneeled down .I saw his head lift up once and I knew he was done. Gave him 20 minutes to make sure he was down as I hear tons of stories of ghost bucks getting up from the dead lol. Walked up on him and man oh man what a feeling , a feeling u can't describe to someone I am still lost for words and can't stop looking at pictures and reliving that very moment I fired and walked up it .on a side note I think my first solo gut went very well . Skinned it by myself
aswell . He weighed out at 83 pounds at the butchEr.

Well done, nice to get the first one under your belt.

You do realize, that has become your lucky "moose" hoodie and it must be worn on all trips from here on in.

Nice work, the good thing about "the Canadian packout" is when you get home you can have the Mrs. check you for ticks. lol

Your a Addict now! Just like all of us, and believe me, that feeling never go's away once you pull that trigger! I've lost count of the animals I've taken over the many years I've been hunting, and even now, when I've got a animal in my sights, my hands start to shake, my heart beats faster, and I love it!!! Congrats on your first Buck, and after reading your story, I don't have to tell you, above all else, "Have fun out there!" That's what it's all about!
