Well congrats to Riley for the gargantuan bull that he managed to harvest ! With a shot like that you may be asked to star in the next captain Philips movie !!
O.K so lets get on with the Mulie hunt . The prawn already gave you all the smaller details of the hunt ,so I will get right to it.
Day 1 found Ryan and I back where I have been quite successful seeing bucks years before , but alas I guess all things must come to an end ! Those little pine trees and massive slashes are now thick over grown pine forest . Since our main focus is to try and locate some moose for the tag holders, off we went through the thick stuff to try and get an idea of any animal movement . A few hours later Ry and I came to the conclusion that their was no moose sign ( at all !) and very little deer sign , so with dark fast approaching we started heading for camp .
Sorry folks , life called for a bit.
Day 2 arrives , nice and cool , about minus 6 , light frost , clear , and we have a plan .
Head to an area that was freshly logged last time we were in here . The maps show lots of water back their so a no brainer to go look for moose sign !
Well as luck would have it I spot a deer ( the first deer Ry and I have seen so far ) But I can't put head gear on it . Ry moves another 30 or so yards and whispers " Dad it's a buck " I still can't see head gear . So I say take him if you want . He waits and boom , I see a definite hit ! Now keep in mind here that this is any buck season and Ry has only shot one other mulie and a handful of blacktails . Deer still standing but not moving ! So I tell ry to move through the slash and finish him in the neck ! Keep in mind I still haven't seen the headgear . I see the gun come up and then here " DAD IT"S $#@^in huge " Boom !!! As the goes down I finally see the bone .
