Had a great two weeks hunting mulies in the caribou.First day out into the Honeyhole i passed on my choice of 2 nice two points.Hoping i would not regret my decision later i left them and thought i might return once my nephew arrived to hunt with me mid week through the long weekend.
My nephew arrived Tuesday night and Wednesday morning we head into the Honey hole hoping the 2 points would be around no such luck.I had shot a real nice 4 point in there last year so we checked out that spot for a couple of days to no avail.
We moved around for a few days and decided to visit a spot we had checked out the previous evening that looked promising. This was a large clearcut with many nice little draws and hidy holes.Slowly making our way around the cut we come to a nice bowl. Immediately i spot a big buck heading out near the of the top of the bowl i get my nephews attention and as it was going to be his shot i wait for the boom.Still waiting ?nothing ? Kid froze with buck fever. Bad scene took a bit to figure out what happened and he was not happy with himself. So i got him calmed down but i could tell he was really upset and his confidence smashed.Somber trip back to camp.
Next day i come up with a plan for a new cut. We start heading up things are perfect we have the sun at our backs and the wind in our face a big advantage for us.As we near the crest of the hill i spot a nice big 3x3 looking at us near the crest i point him out and the kid gets set for the shot.Bang... buck woobles and falls.Working our way towards the fallen deer i look over the other side and standing about 40 meters slightly downhill is a nice big 4x4.Now its my shot the big buck starts to move but the 300 Weatherby barks and the buck goes down .Thats right we have a double header. As i get close to my buck i see he has 5 on the one side and is a brute. So from yesterdays low to todays high standing on that hill it just could not get any better.

Amazing buck, good on you for being patient. I'd have to admit that one day I hope to have the time to spend looking for a BIG rack. I'm usually all about the "Spiker", 2x2 BOOM! and meat in the freezer.

Nice work! Way to keep at it with your nephew. Absolutely nothing wrong with getting a little messed up when looking at a big MD buck. It's friggin exciting and that's all part of hunting. Good for the boy to know what that feels like. To me it shows that it meant a whole lot to the young lad, and the action of taking down a beautiful big mature buck should mean something. Just another awesome part of hunting. My boys are still to young to deer hunt but I look forward to the anticipation and excitement and even the buck fever to happen... If it's a genetic thing they are sure to have it! Congrats on taking some nice bucks - you and nephew will talk about that whole experience for years, very special.

snow on the ground is my muley season.

seeing these pics sure gets the blood pumping though.
