Got back from our LEH Moose hunt on the weekend, and it was a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped, and provided info. I am not much of a story teller, so here is short summary followed by a few images.
Day one went great, saw two 2 point bucks while grouse hunting (Sep 30th, so they got to live) and a cow and calf with lots of fresh sign ever where. We found a great spot to setup camp right by a lake, all to ourselves.
Then it all changed, we saw no animals for 3 days. In fact we did not see another deer for the rest of the trip. It started to get very frustrating as we were hunting hard from first light to last light every day. I was calling for moose (I was the one with tag) and the rest were chasing deer. Never managed to get a response from my calls (Gotta work on that for next time!)
On Day 4 I decided to take a break and go for a ride to find some deer, 2 of us got on an ATV and decided to go and walk a cut block first light. Walked for about an hour, and then decided to ride around and see if we would have better luck road hunting. We hit the main logging road that goes to our camp, and as we were passing by one of the small swamps, I look left and lo and behold 2 bulls are standing dead center in the swamp!
I get off, load the gun and walk 20 yards closer. No reaction from the bulls, pull the trigger on the larger one. It slowly starts walking, find him in the scope and fire another round. This one hits his front shoulder, still walking! Aim for the neck and the 3rd shot drops him. Realized I got lucky he dragged himself out of the water, and dropped on a dry flat ground ready for quartering :D All 3 shots hit him. 2 in the neck and one in the shoulder, luckily there was very little damage to the meat.
It was a 300 yards walk to where he dropped so we quartered and packed him out, took us a good 6 hours or so.
