Hubby got this nice 4x2 opening morning of any buck. he was walking the tree line of a large clear cut following a tall spiker that would never stay closer than 200 yards. When it finally melted into the treeline he decided to walk back down to the road using an old skidder trail. he was half way down when he looked to his left and this guy was just standing there staring at him. Took 20 seconds to make the decision, up with the rifle and down went the buck.
Biggest buck for him to date. he was 137 lbs at the butchers with everything off, legs, head, hide etc. Probably close to 200lbs live weight. Thanks goodness we could get the jeep up that old skidder trail to withing 20-30 yards of the buck but it was still a brutal drag out to the jeep for us old folks.
This buck had more fat on him than I have ever seen and so far has been the best tasting deer we have ever had. Interesting that his neck was already huge for Oct. 1st.
