Born here in 81, lived away for a bit but always come home.

I too wish there were some decent bucks in Kamloops, heck I'd be happy if there were some decent bucks left in region 3, ya gotta go up to reg 5 to find anything bigger than a spike.

Lived here since '79. There are big deer around here... just need to know where to look and be patient. One of the biggest bucks I've ever seen was only 45 mins out of town. I it's think it's tough hunting around here, but just need to find a honey hole - not at Cactus Jacks! - and hunt it hard!

Cactus Jacks can get a lot of hunting pressure. There still is some good trophys being tagged there every year though. For the most part your better off using 400 lb test line and a snickers bar.....

I've never lived in Kamloops.
My Grandparents ran the General Store/Post Office in Barriere back in the 50/60s.
My Grandad passed away in Barriere and is buried in Kamloops. My Grandma moved to Kamloops and passed away there.
My Parents and brat sister live in Rayleigh. My brother lives in Westsyde.
Spent a lot of time fishing and hunting in the area.
I love the Dixon Lakes. Fond memories of fishing from a raft. Big fat grouse, and the odd deer.
Plan to retire up in that area.

300 wsm, I was only 21 years ahead of you. A few people I know have had success in the Jamieson area over the last few years. My son will be going to Westsyde this year and starting his hunting as well.

What!!, no big deer around the loops. a buddy and i went hunting in the loops a few years ago and came across a hunter who had been stranded overnight after driving his suzuki down a hill to get the deer he had shot, when we went to go see if we could get his truck free we looked in the back of his truck to see a 5 by 5 muley sticking out an absolute monster, probably 275 lbs. then again i am from the mainland our deer are pretty tiny around here

Lots of good size deer around Kamloops if you know where to look and how to hunt them. Back road hunting with three guys jammed in the cab with a coffee in one hand and a stogie the other won't cut it. Big mulleys are up early so you have to be up and out in the bush away from your vehicle in the right spot early. Walk slowly, listen a lot and glass the very edges of blocks that have cover in them. Watch for sign, watch the wind and be quiet with walkie talkies etc. Dress properly for weather conditions and stay alert. Find does in November and bucks will be around. One Saturday morning last November I took a friend out who hadn't hunted deer for many years. I took him to a known good area were he picked up a nice 4 before 8:00am. Before 11:00am we saw a total of 7 bucks including one taken, 5 of which were shooters. I made him promise not to tell others about this area before I took him. I took my biggest buck in 2001. Field weight 350 pounds. Score approx. 180. One or two short trips a hunting season will not guarantee you a nice deer. Big deer are around for those who look hard.

Kinda Merritt/kinda Kamloops.....Tunkwa Lake to be more exact and Kirby's right! There are no big bucks left here in Region 3, no moose either. Everyone should pass right by and carry on upcountry! John

Who knows Kamloops hunting spots, if you do a bit, where's the best hunting for deer and birds within a one hour 25 min, drive from the Village, in Kamloops B.C. where hunters could reandevue in your humble opinion? Cj wants to know. Kamloopsians. Here for a good time not a long time.
