I am looking to purchase a small winch that is seperate from my truck. Hoping to be able to attach it to my ATV and boat as well.I saw this in BCHuntingMag and was wondering if anyone has used it before. Looks like something that would be really good for my boat and such, but on the website they also say it can be used to pull game. http://shop.westcoastwinch.com/gas-powered-winch-PCW3000.htmHas anyone seen this before?

Proper link: http://shop.westcoastwinch.com/gas-powered-winch-PCW3000.htm

No experience with them, but it is a capstan winch which allows you to use lines as long as you want. I can see that they can come in real handy at times. I have a 2500# Warn on my ATV and an 8500# on my truck and use both. This winch only pulls 1500# which may or may not be enough, depending on what you want to do with it. I would guess it is not intended for steel cable.

Check out Runva winches. The Aussies love em! I use Runva contactors instead of solenoids on all my winches, and can vouch for them being a quality product with good customer service.

edit-then I clicked the link. I'd be inclined to run with a tried and true unit for a gas powered portable winch, like a Lewis, if that was the route I was gonna go.

I really like my Lewis so far. I used it to pull a bull moose from the other side of the swamp last year. Lots of power with 4000Lbs straight line and 8000Lbs double line. Will easily handle any game retrieving jobs and will get your truck out off a mess.

I use "Warn Winches", reason being, if I get dam good and stuck out there, my very life could, and would depend on gett'in my ass out of there, and believe me, the Old Saying" You get what you pay for" was phrased with "Winches" in mind! A real Cheap winch is just that, "Cheap"!

I've had 2 Warn winches go for a shit while ATVing, so by no means are they bullet proof.....just sayin.
