well it amazes me how fast rumors travell
So no it is not a "23"
But rather a 21 14/16 green scored
he did measure a solid 7 feet nose to tail
also he is a choclate phase black bear
It was a planned family outing we do every spring ,we barely got up the hill and I noticed him lopeing down the grassy, sunflowered slope and quickly told my 12 year old son to get his gun ready because I am going to put him about 70 yards from where the bear is going to come out of the draw as we got ready the bear busted us and ran back into the draw.
My wife looked at me and said leave our son with her and GO GET HIM .
I ran up the bank, rocks rolling behind me, as I crested the bank I was ready to take a shot but there was no bear.So I walked up the slope looking a bit more and spotted him running back up the hill .About 140 yards I touched one off and the dust flew behind him,not sure if I was high or low but concentrateing on getting another one in the tube.
He's running faster now and over small hill and in between tree's it was another miss .I seen him run into a steep draw and quickly ran over to a big bull pine to get a rest for my gun,I new this was it, I could see flashes of him between trees and over the grass and picked out a spot where he had to come through and he did .My shot hit him perfectly in the front shoulder and up he come on his hind legs teeth showing and clawing at his wound. That lasted for a few seconds and he tipped over backwards and piled up against a tree and a old stump .I waited to see if he need another but it was a good shot.I ranged it at 238 yards on a very ugly angle .
Back to the wife and kids with a smile ear to ear,my youngest that is 7 asked, is he big,I replied lets go and see.
Up the hill with the truck ,dump the quad off I go and drive up over top and walk down to him and make sure he is dead, and back to get the family.we all got to the bear took a few pic's and the drag was on.Luckily a group of young guys heard all the shooting and came to check it out so I had alot of help getting him to the truck.he must of been 500 pounds.
Took him back home and then to my buddie"s cooler and he asks why I shot a marmot .So I said see if you can lift the marmot in your cooler. But joking aside he congradulated me on a awsome bear and helped me out like he shot it,Good friend.
The bear is going to be made as a half mount . thats it guys.
