For the last 5+ years, I've been heading north for my "big" hunt of the year. This year, I decided to stay home and hunt local WK elk.

I booked 6 days off from work for hunting, and managed to call in a young 5x6 bull in on day two. He was really vocal, and came readily in to a combination of bugling and cow calling. I shot him at about 60 yard, and he bolted. I managed to get another shot into him, but he still ran over 200 yards before he went down. Both my shots were double lung pass-throughs. Elk are TOUGH!

I started handloading last year, and this was the first animal I have taken with one of my own loads. I was using a 308 Win. with a 168 Barnes TTSX in front of 43.5 grains of Varget (~MV 2715 fps).

Anyway, my freezer will be full again!
