Shot my first moose in 5 13b on Saturday.
Not a big one but happy to get one on last morning of the trip.
Drove from Victoria to 100 mile on Friday and slept in the truck over night.
Drove into camp the next morning and set up.
My biggest concern going in was that weather would be too hot.
Saturday was clear and hot. Then Sunday night weather got nasty.
Heavy rain and wind turned to sleet and snow very quickly. Temp dropped to -3 but stormy.
Saw a few deer and a cow and calf Saturday night. 11 deer and 3 wolves on Sunday. Then almost no sign of life Monday to Wednesday in the crap weather.
Thursday weather settled and we saw 4 moose. 1 was a big bull at the tree line but he was gone in seconds.
Friday 4 cows. Now the weather was against us in the other direction. Great in the early morning but hot by late morning.
Saturday was last day in our schedule. (Although I would have gone into overtime for a couple more). Saw 3 cows early. 8:45 was losing faith in the morning when I spot a bull crossing the slash.
Dropped him at 224 yards and I had my first moose.
No sign of rut coming on yet and no success calling which would have been cool.
A good trip trip with my uncle and his friend.
