So we put in for an LEH up in region 7 , near Mackenzie , where my son lives and as luck would have it , got drawn. My hunting partner of many years "Ribber" , my daughter Tracy and I. Mat , my son had been drawn last year and his team got a nice bull after two days of hunting. We left on Friday after work and went as far as we could , spent the night at a truck stop , and got into MacKenzie the next day.
Off to hunting camp on Sunday. Didn't see much else but Bear sign on every road we tried. It looked like the area had had a good berry crop this year!
On the third day of hunting , Mat whacked a 6x5 Elk , and it was a great day , getting him on the meat pole. No pictures as of yet. I had the "slug gun" handy while we got the elk into the truck. The next day another hunting group showed up at our camp site and said that they had seen a "nice" Silvertip walking down the road near the kill sight. Maybe someone should invent a sign system or warning system that hunters can post in areas where there has been game harvested. Might stop an unwanted surprise.
We , as a group , saw 4 Grizzlies, 8 or 9 Black Bears , 9 Moose, and 2 Elk.
On the very last day, we had gone on our last morning hunt, seen nothing legal , and had headed back to camp to pack up. We loaded up the Elk into the freezer , loaded the Quad, and had both trailers attached to the trucks. As we were cleaning up and getting set to leave, Tracy walked around behind one of the units and said "MOOSE". She came running around to the truck , grabbed her rifle and headed back. She sat down at the picnic table and got her scope on the moose. "ITS A BULL", she gasped........can I shoot it? The other three of us said "yes" at the same time. One shot in the boiler room and one in the neck and it was all done. Four hours later we were on the road home. Tracy was shooting a Savage Axis in 7mm-08, with my 150g Nosler Partition loads.http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t458/crbr1234BRrooster/c476eba7-89c7-4619-9606-3f3146e33217_zps2esi9zqk.jpghttp://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/t458/crbr1234BRrooster/IMG_20150928_212629_zpsj4vl8qgt.jpg?t=1443915267

Way to go Tracy! Now that's leaving it to the "Last minute"! But better late than never! And a nice Euro mount, or even just the horns on a real nice piece of wood, I doubt Dad will let you get a Full Size Mount done!! Congrat's on your first Moose!!!

Nice.. I always joke about legal game wandering into camp but a legal moose now that's a sweet deal. Thanks for the write up, can't wait to see pictures of that elk as well

Finally got a picture of son Mats Elk. Looks like he got a Euro mount done . Its the little "kicker" on the left antler that counts.
