New to elk hunting, and am excited to have a LEH draw this year for Antlerless October 11-31 for 4-02A. (Basically the area east of lake Kookanoosa up to 1100M from Roosville North to Elko) Plan to be up for the start of that, as I know the rut is already on.

Have hunted whites and mules lots, but first year for elk. Have read some books on it, but would love to hear from other hunters.

Would love any sage wisdom from others on filling the tag who have hunted this area, or on Elk in general in the Tread or as a PM

Thanks!

There are plenty of elk but the end of the month will yield more elk encounters. Good luck

Thanks, why do you suggest late month? Colder weather. My thoughts are that would be further from the Rut?

As Koot suggested, end of the month will produce more elk encounters as they start migrating down off the hills towards their wintering grounds. However, you can find some by walking the breaks down along the elk river.
