The wording in the provincial regs is pretty vague.

It says 'When hunting migratory game birds you must carry with you a valid Canadian Migratory Game Bird hunting permit in addition to any required provincial hunting license'

If it is mandatory, why not say 'in addition to a provincial hunting license'?

So my question is: do you need a provincial hunting license/CORE/hunting number to shoot ducks?

Any clarification appreciated.

Yes. You need your BC hunting license, your federal migratory game bird permit and if in parts of Region 2, valid insurance and the Fraser Valley special area license.

Yes, you do need your hunting license /hunter number to duck and geese hunt as well as a migratory bird tag and your Fraser valleys special areas for hunting the Fraser valley . Although I have met people who have duck hunted with out there hunting license with some sort of temporary bird huntingn license ? Not sure what that is all about but maybe worth looking into ? .
