So just left my truck..100 yards..less to place I want to sit and glass for deer..
Within mere moments..45 seconds here comes a small 5 foot 200 pound..well fed black bear boar..
Came from...50 yards...to 35 feet ?.only had time to shoulder the .270 and yell HEY BEAR..the thought was seriously? My black lab is almost his size...real cranky character.
Seen a brown 6.5 foot few days ago, then earlier today a healthy 6 foot black bear, black face..this character well fed, great coat..eating rose hips..puking them out as he ran at me..
Lol knowing I couldnt turn and run..even if I wanted to and perhaps the first second not thinking that small a bear would even chase a squirrel. .
No contact, bear was fine. .shorts are still good for at least a second month..lol
Ya never know..

Cranky black bears should just be shot. Tag in pocket. No problem.

Losing fear of man. Hunted Fort Nelson in 1995. More bears then deer. And no fear of man. Steven that might of been a tasty bear. Glad your safe.

Seems to be a theme this year! Glad I have my bear tag, won't have to wait till one charges me before putting it down!

I was recently on a solo alpine hunt for mule deer. Evening of the 1st I shot a 4x4, still kicking on the ground, seconds after hitting the ground a bear was booking it through the meadow at the downed deer. I yelled and the bear turned around running into the bush. As I was quartering and boning out the deer in the dark with snow coming down, he came back. I could see his eyes glowing off my headlamp just staring. I kept yelling aggressively, throwing rocks but he just kept sticking around and inching closer. Not fun.

I agree that dropping the bear would have been a good idea. A 200 lb bear is not small .

No shortage of black bears in BC .

Looks like I will get a bear tag. Last bear I shot west of PG tasted like shit. I haven't shot one since 1998.

Looks like I will get a bear tag. Last bear I shot west of PG tasted like shit. I haven't shot one since 1998. Probably cause it was eating all the gutbags from all the moose dropped out there??
