Hi All;

Went with my daughter for my limited entry sheep hunt in 8-01 and thanks to a very helpful member found the area we wanted to hunt had a successful hunt, not great at story telling but I will try!
On the first day we hiked in not sure the exact length but around 2 - 3 kilometers round trip and we saw 3 ewes and lambs so we decided to come back to the truck for a lunch which was not smart as it was a little tough for me, after lunch we went again this time we saw 4 rams and passed on them as they were a little smaller. The next day we went to the same area and my daughter glassed 5 good rams and of course they spotted us and they went over a ridge, we decided to go after them so back tracked and went behind the mountain and came out where we thought they might be and sure enough they were there, we saw their horns over a rock cropping so we snuck over to them and I had a 30 yard shot (at the most ) one shot and he went 20 feet and dropped thank god as we figured we were now 3 to 4 kilometers from the truck. After a tough pack we were about 200 yards from the truck and as luck would have it 5 good rams were walking around 20 yards to our left! Dropped the ram of at the taxidermist and it was 5 1/2 years old and he thought around 3/4 to 7/8 curl and well past full curl if it had not been broomed off. The next day I took the horns to have the compulsory inspection done the CO confirmed what the taxidermist thought as far as size and mentioned that to get that big at his age he had very good genetics, so I am a very happy camper!

Congrats! Am I correct in guessing this was your very first day ever sheep hunting? If so, not many guys could make that claim!

Hi Krico;

Was out washing my truck after deer hunting and realized I misunderstood your question, I thought you meant with my daughter, no I have
had sheep tags while out elk hunting and when I was a lot younger I shot a ram right on the logging road so again sorry for the confusion at my end.

Lol no problemo I was just curious.
Like 264 I would have guessed the ram older than 5 too...but admittedly have exactly 0.0 days hunting bighorns...
regardless awesome ram and way cool that you had your daughter along

Nice ram. Not that it matters for your draw but that ram is clearly older than 5 years old. Looks to be at least 6, maybe 7.

Great job on a beauty cali and its awesome you did it with your daughter.

Good job, nice ram! Too bad the MOE people can't age sheep! Have a look, he looks like 6-7 years old.

Hi,
I forgot to mention and not sure how many of you may know this but when I got my sheep compulsory inspection the gentlemen said mine was number 6 even thought there was only 4 authorizations,
he said they sometimes do give out more tags from time to time and am glad they did.

first look at the pics I thought it was one pick with two rams down close together...heheheh...

I thought they always give more tags than they want animals killed due to some hunters not being successful...is this not the case for sheep?

campking
06-20-2016, 12:22 PM
The limited hunting regulations said 4 so I thought they were allotting 4 but as I mentioned they gave out at least 6 tags. I have been told that sometimes they are waiting for more data
even after of the LEH submission closing date to make the final decision.

I was surprised no one asked me about my bamboo shooting sticks laying on the ground in the photo, they cost under 5 bucks and are super light to carry and very strong.

I'm counting at least 7 rings and given the brooming of the lamb tip, maybe more. But beauty ram and couldn't ask for a more gratifying sheep hunt!
