What an awesome day. My buddy and I had our dogs out. My pup,Ben, was on his first outing. We put up 70 or so birds. We got limits. Ben was pointing and retrieving like a champ. I'll post a picture when I can.

Hope you had enough grouse tags to cover your bag limit!

Kind of expensive, but, yes!

I was in mu 8-5 for the opener yesterday and only managed to scare up 2 ! Did see quite a few deer and an owl grab a rabbit off the road which was neat to see.

I don't think you were in blue grouse country if you'v only seen a handful. I'm thinking they were migrant blue grouse in willow grouse country.

Love the blues. Big white meat birds. I'd better top up my 7 1/2 bag.

That is awesome. Must have been a rush to hunt over your pup for the first time.

Me, I got one yesterday. Not sure what kind, so I had to cancel one of each tag. It should be written on them somewhere, like a model number. Frustrating.

One covey we put up had 25 birds in it. That was awesome to watch.....they flushed out of range but we got a few singles.

I can't wait to get out and get some. I'm having a hard time finding any grouse tags. I phoned a couple of places and asked...I was put on hold and then they would come back on the phone and tell me they don't have them. I guess every one else has bought them all up already.

For blue grouse (now dusky grouse) around PG, head east into the mountains and start climbing or driving up the logging roads. They are high elevation birds around there. They are also not hunted much and are very very tame. They make spruce grouse seem hyperactive. They also have a more 'needle-based' diet than the birds farther south. I've shot a few around Slim Creek and some of the hiking trails that get into the alpine.

But for the true blue grouse experience, you should go farther south.. William's Lake & south

I've only seen them at high elevations on Vancouver Island and Queen Charlotte Islands.

If you're game I'd be interested in running my pup. I have a year old GWP. She's been on birds but is green. I don't have my license but am happy just to work the dog. She has heard blanks a few times so we need to play the shooting by ear a bit. Would need to shoot from a distance but if she's shy - I'll put her back in the car.

I'm in Vancouver. Can't go this weekend but next should be fine.
