Youth White tail from Region #3

Well, we were out for the youth opening in region three for white tails, my youngest son at 15 seems to be the chosen one.
Day two of hunting, we had hiked up into a burn about 700m meters off the road glassing and waiting in a semi open area, on a beautiful evening.
it was starting to get a little dark so we started our way down, Dad leading, moving fairly quickly down a ridge because of the on coming darkness, when I spot the head of this whitetail buck sticking out of the tall fire weed at 40 yards. I said "Jesse its a buck, shoot it now" with in a couple seconds the gun was up and the shot was taken.
Perfect shot off hand in the white patch under the chin with a Savage 243 at 87grns. The deer was all but dead when we got to it. and it was reverse ground shrinkage, that one nice deer I said. I got the Thanks Dad, Hug!!! got to love those.
It was getting dark so I quickly got it dressed, no kill site photos because the iphone went dead:( But we got the photos after the 500m drag buck to the truck), 6x6 all-together with Brow tines.

Couldn't wipe the smile of the kids face, said it hurt the next day he was smiling so much!!!

Yep that's a drop tine, When I got to the deer I said, nice deer and it's got Junk!!! one split brow tine and the Drop you see in the picture.

Unfortunately the cape was ruined from the Drag to the truck over to ay dead falls.

It will definitely mounted!!! Jesse has it 3/4 of the way to a euro mount, he scored it himself at 148.

Congratulations that's a heck of a buck for the young fella. Glad he got a taste of the work involved with dragging a mature buck that far. Good for both of you.
