30-06,
When I found that shed I was thinking it was a bullet hole. Now I'm not too sure as I've been told it is quite common for moose to puncture holes in their palms when they are fighting. I find it odd because this is the 1st one I've picked up with a hole in it and I have picked up 100's of moose sheds over the years. But, according to some other shedders on other forums this is a common thing.

Mark,
Actually I rarely ever find matches. Just this year I've been having good success. Granted I really have got the technique of gridding down to an art. Sometimes I'm successfull. Most of the time I'm not. Matches can be as close as inches away and as far away as a km or more. When I picked up the match to Widebugger it was 800 metres or so. I spent 4 solid days trying looking for it. I've picked up big sheds and have spent over 40 hours searching for the match and have come up empty handed. You win some and you loose some I guess.

JMac,
My lab just had pups and the kids twisted my arm to keep one. We'll see if I can train it up to be a shedder and maybe we'll be a little unconventional and turn her loose on a lion one day. ;)
