I can't find a thread on here devoted to 12 volt booster packs and since I'm looking to buy, I thought I'd solicit opinions and advice.

Who has one? What brand/model do you recommend and what to avoid?
I've looked at the MotoMaster/Eliminator models at Canadian Tire and the reviews are mixed, mostly due to poor quality and dying quickly (just after the end of the warranty). I've owned two of them before and they didn't last long even with minimal use. Their best models are 200-300 dollars which is a lot when it will crap out in three months. At work, we have a stack of these that died, some that have never been used.

Any advice on a good model that is well made?

I have the motomaster. Mine still works but, like you said, it wont forever. They are great piece of mind though. I am usually out solo and a dead battery is a bitch. Self reliant is good.

A little Honda generator will get you going and will last a lot longer than what has been posted so far.

I have a Snap-on portable for use on the shop to boost small equipment, and it has lasted well it's about 5 years old now and never had a problem. Who the original manufacture is I have no idea, but it has the Snap-on name and guarantee.

I have a Lithium Ion booster pack. Mine came from Cnd Tire but you can get the at Lordco, KMS and some bike shops and most auto parts stores. These new booster packs are small and light they are about 8 inches X 2.5inches x 1 inch. I have boosted my work van when the battery wouldn't even light up the clock on the radio. They say it was boost up to 20 cars before it needs a recharge.

This X100.

I have this one from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Spirit-A8-Emergency-Ultra-bright-Cellphone/dp/B00KBINF7G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441386381&sr=8-1&keywords=%5BPower+Upgraded%5D+Spirit+%28TM%29+A8+C ar+Jump+Starter+18000mAh+Booster+Emergency+Power+S ource+Emergency+Auto+Start+Power+%26+Ultra-bright+LED+Flash+Light+for+SOS+%26+High+Capacity+P ower+Bank+for+Cellphone+Tablet+Laptop+-+Black

18000 mha and 500 peak amps. Plus it comes with a charge cord for most phones and laptops.

Fits in the glove compartment of the Rhino. I haven't cranked my 6.7L diesel with it but I have started the wife's Xterra a few times.

I've since bought a second one and will be buying several more as Christmas gifts.

I have a motomaster eliminator type, its pretty big and bulky and heavy though and has all kinds of extra crap on it most don't really need for jumping their vehicle. CAT makes one now, its more compact with none of the extra crap on it and puts out some really good CCA, that would be my next one.

If you don't already have one of these... go get one! They are incredible.

I first saw one about 6 months ago at a trade show and they used it to start a car 17 times before they had to recharge the unit. We bought one for work and it will easily jump start our 1 ton shop truck. I couldn't believe that little thing would turn over a V-8 engine... but it did... over and over.

Last year I went down to haul my boat out of the marina for the year and found that my lights had been left on... dead battery. Out comes the Jump-N-Go. My boat engine is a 5.0L V-8 and it fired right up. Of course I added throttle a bit soon and stalled it. 6 more cranking attempts and it fired and ran again.

This thing is the size of an 8 track tape (for those that remember them) and the power out of it is amazing. It's not going to start your engine at -40 but if you just have a dead battery it's perfect. It fits in my bike, my Jeep... anywhere!

No, I don't sell them... I just think they're awesome! I got mine at Lordco... I'm sure plenty of other places have them too.

X2 for a bump, I'm also looking for one for those just in case moments, but maybe with a built in air compressor would be nice as well

Hooked up with a solar panel and a led light, For in the wall tent.Maybe this year it will croke.

Was kicking myself for not having one... during and after winching my truck up a hill for 5 hours, and around a corner with my highlift jack 16" at a time... so I could get the truck rolling and pop the clutch. Luckily have a manual. I just carry a spare battery now.

I have had one of these for a couple years. The smallest 12 volt jump start system made. It will start a V8 several times. I highly recommend it.

Went to Costco bought deep cycle battery, same size as in truck. Went to CT bought battery box and 2amp smart charger. Rivited charger inside box cover and at least double capacity for less money plus flexibility that can rotate into truck if really need to.
