So, day 2 of the youth hunt and my Grandson and I missed the morning hunt, I had to go to town. So around 4:30 this afternoon we had the quads all ready to go, we went across the road through my nice neighbors yard, my Grandson opened the first gate, so I rode through to the top gate, opened it and went about 10 yards up the trail and waited for Kato to catch up and close the gate. I had my quad shut off and I stood up to look back and see how the gate closing was going. I seen a flash on my right about 35 to 40 feet from me, and all I seen was Horns! Holy Crap, a Buck! Two bounds and the very nice White Tail had disappeared into the thick brush, but I though, if I could get Kato on top the little knoll beside me, he might be able to see it standing in the distance and get a clear shot!Still sitting on my quad, I turned around and waved at him frantically to shut his quad off, grab the 270 and get up here, Pronto! Just then, I looked and could see what to me looked like a white tail shed laying in the bushes where the buck had been bedded down, up came my bino's and the horn moved! You have got to be kidding me! There in the brush, not 20 yards from us was a second White Tail Buck, hoping like hell we'd leave I guess! I asked Kato, can you see that horn right there? He looked through the scope and said Yes! I can get him in the neck, real easy from here too! Off went the safety of the 270 Ruger and Bang! The buck kicked a few times, and that was that! From the time we closed the gate at my place, to the time Kato fired,it couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 minutes! And the best part, Papa, (Me) got to hold the bucks leg while Kato cleaned the Buck himself! It's now in the cold room, all skinned, washed and dried and cooling off just fine! And the best part is, Kato's still got a Mule Deer tag! So, with the lunch we didn't get a chance to eat today well out hunting, we can eat tomorrow well out hunting! And good luck to all the other Young Hunters out there this week!
