Hey everyone, been following this forum for a while now and finally decided to become a member. Been hunting for a few years now and have been hearing people talk about to get the "big mulies" you need to be up in the alpine. Just a general question, what do you guys consider altitude wise, to be an alpine hunt? 4000ft and up? 5000ft? Just some general clarification would be awesome. Thanx.

I have never actually hunted in the alpine, but have done a fair bit of mountaineering and seen many mountain goats. I would say once cross above 1500-1800 meters (approx. 5000ft) you could consider that alpine. I've never seen any deer in the alpine but they probably heard/smelled me coming and high tailed it out of the area before I could see them.

my understanding of the alpine is the vegetation above the tree line. There is usually no trees because its covered in snow to long for trees to grow. Alpine will start at different elevations depending on where you are located . My experience in BC is usually around the 6000ft mark and up. The sub alpine is where deer like to hang out in the early season. I almost predominately hunt the alpine all season long. .
Welcome by the way.

Hunt the treeline. Don't worry about elevation.

Alpine in Southern BC/ Chilcotins around 1800m. I scouted for deer end of June and saw several groups of bucks at 2000 to 2300m in the mornings, then would bed down in the trees around 1700m in the first groups of trees.
With no snow and warm temps in September you will find big mulies/ blacktails up high above treeline.
