Hi,

I am looking for a range in the Okanagan that has 400+ yards. I currently am a member at the KDFGC which is great for bench to 200yds, but I'd like to try some longer shots and some field positions as well. So if you know of a range that a guy can shoot, say prone at 400+ yards let me know. I have checked the sites of the other ranges in the area, but none list what distances they have(could be me though just not looking hard enough:oops:).

Thanks,

Chris

There is a range above the cadet camp in Vernon. No idea who run's or how to get access to it though.

Osceola fish and game club in Lake Country has a 300 yard range. And I've heard the Joe Riche range has a spot you can shoot out to 1000 yards.

Speaking of the Okanagan... I might be headed there this weekend and I want to get some target practice in before my first hunting season coming up. The local webpages are not very informative and it isn't clear which ones are open to the public and when. If anybody can recommend where to go or a good place in the woods, I would appreciate it.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread OP.

I know it's not really the Okanagan, but the Heffley Creek gun club, just North of Kamloops, goes out to 500 meters.

Find a good clearcut...or even the old Peachland dump site, if ya go on the far bank to end as long as no one else is there, you get 420 yards...

Thanks for the quick replies. If I could find information on the Joe Riche range that sounds like the best option for me. I may have to find a good spot in the woods to try my AR500 steel gongs at.

OutdoorDave the KDRGC is only letting members on the range from Aug 15 to Sept 15 I think because of all the people getting ready for hunting season. They are also limiting your range time to 30min when it is busy, which it hasn't been any time I have gone. Otherwise it is $20 to get a guest pass and you have to be with a member.

Vernon range is excellent. Target holders out to 400m, gongs at 300m 400m and 500m. Separate pistol range, rimfire range and a couple bow areas.

Find a good clearcut...or even the old Peachland dump site, if ya go on the far bank to end as long as no one else is there, you get 420 yards... I bought some of this stuff http://www.ebay.ca/itm/500M-546yds-10LB-0-14mm-Multi-Color-100-PE-Dyneema-Sea-Braided-Fishing-Line-/201416036501?hash=item2ee554d095 to make my own range up in the mountains. I found an old logging road that was some 300 yards or so of straight road. The line is colored so you can map out however long you want, Is it accurate. Dunno. Every color is like 10 meters in length then changes to another color and so on.
