Last year while deer hunting I climbed a very steep high elevation ridge. While I saw no deer up there I did trip on a few big sheds ( which ive already posted earlier) and found remains of others. All winter ive been dreaming of shedding this spring in this spot. Because of the deep snow this past winter I wondered if any deer would of wintered up that high, but I guess they did. My girl Georgia found the first one and it was her first shed ever. A cute little 5 pointer fresh, brown and not a tooth mark on it. She was so happy!

We were determined to find the match, so we walked a grid. Next was my turn.
This beauty has huge tine length, but lacks mass and brows, still tapes at 77 inches

We combed that ridge a few times and decided to hike to another only a few hundred yards away, I found these 2 beauties in 1/2 hour only a 100 yards apart. I thought they were a perfect match but they were of the same side, these antlers were almost identical, but from 2 different deer, (maybe twin bucks) They are both last years and the rats have had there way with em.

They both are nice 5 points with brows, and 1 has a cheater making it a 6 point.
The measurements are almost identical and roughly score about 75 inches each.
We found about 6 others also, all badly chewed some were just pieces, but all would of been 150 class bucks or better, 4 5& 6 point antlers, we just hung em in trees for the rats to finish off!
This is what we packed out after about 4 hours of pounding the bush.

Nice, looks like you might have to spend some time up there in the fall. Don't forget to take your lucky charm with you so she can shoot the bigger buck again...

Id love to find these bucks next year, but im not sure if theyre higher or lower ground in hunting season. This ridge is way higher ground than I usually hunt, I hunted it a couple times in the past couple years and have never seen a deer there, nor alot of sign. There isnt a single buck rub on a tree anywhere up there which tells me there not there in the rut. This ridge is getting a t-cam come next january though! Will be snowmobile access and waist deep hike in though! Ticks ya we checked, No ticks today!

Ive come to the conclusion that they probably are from the same buck, but they are almost identical, 1 has an extra ticker, not much growth. I ruled out this possibility at first because they both have the same amount of chewing and fading on them. Bear hunting... well I have a bear tag but I wasnt looking for em and it would have to be a pretty unique bear before I shoot another black. The woman just feels more comfy in the woods if shes packing a rifle, I didnt bother.
Well I didnt sleep well last night thinking about all the missing sides to the sheds I found, so we headed back to the same ridges to check em again. While we didnt find anything where we looked yesterday, we explored a little more and heres what we found. (Give me a minute to upload here)

A couple of old 5 points badly chewed!

And my super find of the day that made it all worth it, This mega mass, club of a 6 point shed which has over 20 1/2 inches of mass. Yes I looked very hard for the other! opps wont let me place any more pics, see next post.

Another angle of this brute, he only measures at 76 inches, but 5 1/2 inch H-3 & H-4, super thick everything right to the tips! Unfortunately the bush rats beat me to it!

Nice looking tine. Too bad about them damn rodents eh? I've got numerous mulitple years of the same bucks. Sometimes you swear it's the exact same antler with no new growth. As for the colouring, some times it just depends on where the antler fell. If it was a little more concealed from the sun, it will fade less than one out in the open.

Ticks ya, took one home today.
Bush rats, I think im gonna start packing a .22 while shed hunting and blast every rodent I see!
F-D Id gladly trade ya my honey shed hole, for SSS's whitey hole, but youd have to install wheelie bars and full rollcage on yer quad as its pretty steep terrain to get to these ridges!
