Atnarko River- Bella Coola, Fresh Water Clams

Hey, Couple weeks back went out to the upper Atnarko River where you can't fish what so ever. Anyone know if you can take the fresh water clams?

Called fisheries and they said they would call me back as they didn't have the answer. I assume no, so I didn't take any. There were TONS there and just wondering for next time!

What would you do with the clams? I tried some a while back and it was like chewing on a piece of rubber boot,may be I am preparing them wrong?? How would you prepare yours Doe.Deer??

I haven't tried them before. My understanding is just boil them in salted water until they open up. (maybe season the water with thyme or some herbs) if they don't open up they are not edible or continue steaming them until they do.

I wouldn't eat it raw, is that what you did?
