Just so people know. If they are planning their hunting trip based on the Backroads maps they should know that a good portion of the roads on it don't exist anymore. Grown in so thick a moose could barely pass.

Nothing a chainsaw and some hard work wont take care of :)

Honestly, I haven't even opened up the backroads map book in years. Google Earth is more reliable, but even then you need to look at the imagery date as those alders don't take long to creep in, plus in the increased amount of complete deactivation.

People need to stop trying to pinpoint their hunting/camping spot on a map and just get the f out there and explore.

I 100% agree. Which is why that is what I'm planning on doing this weekend and the next.

With the exception of a couple planned major trips, pretty much every time I go hunting, I never plan where I'm going. Drive up the highway until I see a random FSR pull off that looks appealing, then investigate each side spur until it dead ends. Once possibilities are exhausted, back on the highway and repeat. Typically set up a small camp after dark and pack it up early morning and move along. You'd be amazed at the new promising areas you stumble upon using this method.
