Vernon has been socked in the last couple of days. Trip to K-town yesterday required headlights to play safe. Today has given us a break so far........

Overheard on the radio yesterday at lunch:

"On the 1-to-10 scale of the Air Quality Index, Vernon rated 16 this morning."

Yeah, it was thick. I can't imagine how it was for those people in the triathlon in Kelowna on Sunday. Blech.

What effect does everyone think this will have on hunting opening day (sept 10th)?

Easier hunting due to the smoke acting as a cover sent, harder hunting due to less animal movement, ect?

i wondered about the smoke earlier this summer.
if the animals freak out thinking danger/fire is approaching.
but surely they are in tune to what's going on and realize it's no immediate threat.

if they are used to it, and going about living like usual, I think it could act as some scent cover, and also good for movements, just like hunting in the fog.
shitty thing is, it makes it harder to see them as well.

The wife is in Midway working at the Fire base there and she asked me to send her some warmer clothes today......she has not seen the sun in 4 days.....

Smokey, ash and no wind makes for no sun and cold temps.

Supposed to start to clear a bit by Thursday.

Cheers

A buddy of mine said yesterday that Castlegar was extremely smoky. The sad news is my best buddy is flying in from Northern Ontario for a motorcycle trip and me a and a few guys are (or where) going to cruise down to Tulameen and see another old buddy. I guess we will just see what happens over the next few days. Maybe we will just head north and see some country.

been working in Kimberley and Fernie, there's been lots of smoke and smell. Came back to the Fraser valley, it was smoky all the way up the highway, and didnt really clear until merit. Then, got to the Valley.. oh ya.. forgot how bad cow shit smells.
Saw lots of deer on a regular basis, the odd bear and a few elk. Didn't seem like they were bothered at all by the smell of smoke. Seeing a group of white tail haul ass across the highway due to quaders in the area...that's another story!!
