The heaviest bird I have seen was 21 lbs. Some guy at a banquet once told me he took a 27 pounder, but I don't know if he was just bs'ing or not.

I think that this was a "tended" bird, semi tame and was hand fed a special diet over an extended period of time. Definitely non-typical.

Like most of the birds in Creston they are sometimes fed by a bucket by a little old gal.

So far I have not been able to hunt turkeys here in BC. Neither have I witnessed or heard of any turkey weights here in BC. But in an attempt to answer your question I can tell you what hunters can expect. British Columbia’s turkey population is mainly made up of the subspecies Merriam’s wild turkey. The Merriam’s are slightly smaller than the eastern wild turkey, occasionally growing to weigh as much as 27 pounds.

BC is also home to a smaller population of the subspecies Rio Grande wild turkey. In size and coloration these birds are very similar to the Merriam’s wild turkey and rarely exceed the weight of 26 pounds.

The Eastern wild turkey does not yet call BC its home but soon will as it slowly migrates from a small flock in Washington State into BC. The Eastern Wild turkey has the largest and most wide spread population today. An adult tom can weigh as much as 26 pounds.

The only official weighing and measuring methods of trophy turkeys are those of the National Wild Turkey Federation. All measurements are taken in 1/16 inch. The weight is in pounds only.
