That's a loaded question because we don't know if you practice shooting that far, and what's considered a good group at that range for you.

Federal blue box or Remington core lokts, that's what your grandfather used so if it fed your dad it will feed you.

I'll be honest with you, just because I shoot one brand successfully and Joe Blow shoots another The only true answer is trial and error. My BLRs 325 and 270 WSM LOVE silver box.but my 308 BLR likes Remington Core Loc Winchester My Model 70 7mm seem to like Federal orange box and my Model 70 270 is a fan of Federal blue box. I would suggest starting out with the cheapest over the counter ammo you can find in your preferred weight and shoot a few, if your rifle doesn't group well go to the next one up. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it so let your rifle be the judge.

My rem 700 25-06 shoots the Remington cor loks very accurate as well ! Couldn't hand load any better groupings .

My rem 700 7mm Rem mag loves Federal 150 SP silver box shoots under 1/2 MOA. but I loaded 150g Barnes TTSX and they shoot good too so that is what I am using in it. It shoots 2" plus groups with Remington Green box 150's so you will just have to buy a bunch and go shoot them up.

Since you want to shoot at fairly long range, my suggestion is to first try ammo with a bullet that has a high ballistic coefficient and which has a good reputation for excellent terminal performance on game. A couple of bullets that come to mind are Barnes TTSX and Nosler Accubond. If they turn out to be accurate in your rifle. it's a win win situation. Their sleek profiles shoot flatter, buck wind better and retain more velocity, which equates to more retained energy.

I would start with federal fusions, seems to shoot well out of most gun.

You have to experiment for a bit at closer ranges to eliminate human error to accurately gauge what your gun likes best...my rem 700 in .30-06 likes the Remington corelokts best I found, but also likes the federal fusions..

My sako 7mm loves hornady superformance 162 gr SST. First box of amo I tried since my girlfriends sako shoots them well and they shoot sub MOA out to 800 yrds so far. Great bullets for the distance you are looking for. If money isn't an issue try the Barnes vor-tx ammo as well

I've had acceptable results for hunting at 400 yards, 3-5" groups consistently, using nosler partitions and barnes vortx, nosler has much less of a velocity spread, but the ttsx shoots a bit tighter for me...but I'm sure many other brands would work, it's a trial and error type of thing to see what works with your rig

Ask your gun which bullets it likes the most.

My new Winchester Model 70 sure didn't, they were over pressure to the point I had complete bolt lock up. Had to use a rubber mallet to pound the bolt open.

Horandy Super-Performance with an SST bullet. There expensive but pack a punch and shoot strait!

Another vote for Core Lokt. It's the first round I put through the gun and I shot a 1" group at 100 yards on a windy day (I'm not an experienced shooter.) My friend who grew up shooting had a go and put 4 rounds in the target all touching each other. I know it's 'cheap' ammo but my 270 likes it so I stuck with it. I have also shot 2 muley bucks with these rounds and neither made it more than 10 yards.

My friend with loading equipment talked me into buying powder, primers and Nosler bullets for my 300 Winchester magnum and we loaded up many rounds that accounted for several elk and moose, a deer and quite a few bears.

He lost interest in loading and I ran out of powder and bullets so one day I spent $20 on a box of silver box Winchester cartridges at a gun show and at they range they shoot 1.5 inch groups at 200 metres. Good enough for me.
