Always worth a shot. Just because they arent in full rut, doesnt mean you wouldnt get a curious bull coming in

I watched a guy call in and kill two nice Bulls at one time in mid August. That's right. Two.

Moose opens Aug 15 in FSJ.

I believe he was referring to the killing two moose not the time of year.

Moose talk all year round they don't go mute out of the rut. Call away they will come, maybe not as fast or with return calls but they will check you out.

I guess anytime can be good...
However I would say Sept. 15 - - Oct. 15 are the peak rut times up here!
Good luck.

Sat in a nice quiet spot last year calling moose and a cougar snuck in on me. 10 Feet away he was. Yelled at it, didn't move gun already on him for some reason decided to pop one over its head and he did a back flip and took off. Big Lake area is rife with em ...rife i tell yuh.

Over the years I've heard the odd grunt while sitting in a boat fishing up around ****en Lake. I've had moose within 100 yards of me, so I tried calling just with my hands and mouth, everyone ran like they just heard a moose eatt'in ghost!!! So, I make a moose call from a red plastic coffee can, with a "Leather" shoe lace stick'in out the bottom of it, a little spit, give it a couple good grunts and watch for moose coming in! I can't count the moose I've seen using my coffee can, but, a word of advise, practice with it at home first, before you go and try to call in a moose, other wise the only part of a moose you'll see is it's ass running away from you!

A Pringles tube and a wet cloth shoelace works as well.
