Pretty good for a couple of sheep rookies! Takes a little luck and boot leather! 34x14 and 37x13.5. Living up north pays off in the best ways...

Thanks all, it was a pretty awesome hunt. Ages 7 and 9, maybe 10. Mine was a bit younger than I would have liked but I had left my pack and spotter at the bottom and I wasnt going to get picky with those two tips in my scope! Not much to tell, just burned enough boot leather to be in the right place at the right time! I spotted mine sneaking over a ridge after he busted me creek walking so I snuck into the basin he was living in and caught him napping on a ridge at 202m. You sure cant practice laying prone on a 25* downhill and shooting back uphill at 35*! Buddy was sidehilling along on a different mountain and walked right into a band of three at 180m. Got set up on them and waited for a shot!

Thanks fellas. Heck of an experience! Got a couple PMs, for those wondering we were not in the arctic red... mountain river country. Northwright has residents over a barrel and the cost to go deep in the Mackenzie mtns is crazy. We plan to recruit a couple more guys for next year and go deeper....We killed the only two legal rams we saw and probably the only two within a day walk of our lake. Hard to stay motivated when you go days without seeing anything other than your buddies!

Great report and thanks for sharing. I always wondered why we saw so little from resident NWT hunters in the Mackenzies? Sure hope you locals can keep it up. The outfitters need some competition.
Cheers and thanks.

You dont see much because there arent very many of us! I know of four successful residents so far this year and a lot of guys go later in august or sept.

My memory says it was a 2 year wait for residency which is kind of silly. U could be a yukon resident in 6 months at the same time and in only 3 months if you had ever lived a year in Yukon. It changed now but that was in the 70s.

one year now here, 6 months if you have good reasons but you have to be there one year before.
