Hi all,

Just wanted to get some opinions on a good value bullet in 270. cal that also performs well. I know some of you might say that's not possible; please reserve your opinions for another post. I'll be hunting whitetail, mule deer, and immature bull moose. Looking for the best bang for the buck ;) . Thanks!

For value, I like the Hornady SST's. Actually, value aside I still like the Hornady SST's.

In 7mm and .338wm, for the most part they're $20-25 cheaper a box compared to Barnes, $30-40 cheaper than Nosler ect...

I shoot a .270 and have used Federal Premium Game Kings 135gr for years with good success. I get a 1" group at 200yds consistently. I hunt deer the majority of time and the bullet performance has been very good - boat-tail soft points I believe. I have tried hand loads in various makes and weight, but the game King seems to do just as well and are readily available when I need more.

Pretty much any bullet from a .270will kill a deer on a broadside shot

Remington CoreLokts from a 270 have killed millions of deer over the years. Cheap and available, just like a good woman.

Federal blue box. Buy a few boxes and practice practice practice!

I was out last night and bruised up my shoulder getting ready for the Big Bang.

Have used my 270 for the past thirty years and for the first 25 years I only used 130gr Core Lokts. Shot everything from bull moose to grizzly bears to mulies in heavy timber never had an issue with them. Last five or six years been using 130gr nosler partitions and have nothing but good things to say about there performance. But as FD said if your looking for affordability can not beat core lokts.

I have used Nosler Pts-150s, for my .270s for 40+ years and while I often load others that I buy on "sale" to practice with, I always go back to the NPs.

I find that they always work on any shot from any angle and also do not seem to mess up as much meat as lighter, faster and/or softer bullets often do.

best value, 150gr Fusion from Federal. Bonded core, boat tail, typically shoot very well for group size.

I would run 140gr Accubonds from Nosler or 130gr VorTx Barnes TTSX if it was myself. The extra $1 a shot is worth it to me

Hornady Intelocks in 150gr reasonable price and tough enough for your needs. If I was buying factory rolled Federal fusions

150gr SST. (basically, a tipped interlock)

Best bullet you can get for .270 before paying nearly double for partitions or solid copper.

I was given a 10-box case of Federal Blue box 270 loaded with 130 grain Speer Grand Slam bullets. I guess I'll go with those. I've got plenty for a follow-up shot.

Agreed,,,when someone says value,,I presume they want the best quality for their dollar,,which in my opinion leaves the Core Loks out of the conversation.

Factory .270 ammo, 150grain Fusions all the way. Tough to beat for price, accuracy and dependability on game. I've 3 good buddies that still use them when they run out of handloads from me.

I like fusions in my Savage .270 Win usually grab the 140grains. nice soft recoil too. But good groups.

watch out for them fragmenting too quickly and ruining meat..this happened with me using Federal blue box in a .30-06..destroyed a whole shoulder..

Thanks all, I've done well with fusions in the past. Going back to school in the fall and money is going to be a bit tighter than usual, hence the need for value, and for meat in the freezer!

Last season's elk wasn't that bad, but fragmenting was definitely a problem.
