With the Aug 1st and 15th seasons opening up North just around the corner, I was wondering what everyones plans are.

Obviously no honey-holes, I'm just curious as to what everyone has planned, I can't wait to get out there!

Aug 1st I plan to go up to either 7-19 or 7-50 (depending on weather) with 2 other guys to scout and/or take a wolf or ThinHorn if I ever get another shot at one.

Aug 15th I'll be in 7-19 to 7-21 looking for Elk and Moose, maybe Region 7A looking for a goat, likely going solo (applicants wanted...!)

Yeah, hard to believe the start of the season is just around the corner again.

A group of us is planning to head into Redfern Lake for a bit of an ATV/motorcycle adventure on the 20th. Not a dedicated hunt but we'll be packing tags and rifles. If we see promising sign we will stick around after the big group departs and see what we can do to put something in the freezer.

I would like to see the hide of a wolf in August. Shoot away though. There are plenty up there.

I have a few hunts planned myself. Not sure exact dates yet. But its gonna be a good season.

What do you think will be so bad with August wolf hides? I'm new to the North and have next to no experience with wolves, other than a few medium distance encounters for the odd second here or there last season in the PG & Chetwynd area.

Fly out of muncho in 2 days for stones with my dad, sept 1'st archery moose (already got him tied up), and accompanying a couple friends on mountain goats in October, plus I gotta fit in a goat hunt for myself sometime in between lol.

I'll be scouting a new area for goats come the long weekend... also heard there's elk in the area. So I guess I'll keep and eye out for those buggers too.

Depending what I find that weekend will determine the rest of my season

Scouting maps and then boots to the ground to scput goats August 22/23.

Gonna hunt 316 for goats labour day weekend and a week mid september then only one day off a week the rest of season. Budget hunt with a crappy sleeping bag survival blanket in case needed for extra warmth and no spotting scope so I'll have to get real close lol.

Haven't even thought of other animals. Though I'll be looking for berry bear sign and the hybrid deer that live there

I was trying to think back on opening day hunts I've had.

I think I've only killed one animal on opening day (Sep 10), a bull elk that I had to shoot because it was gonna run over me on the skinny little trail I was standing on.

What made that one extra sweet was that the guide-outfitter (who horned in on us when we had that bull bugling a bit) over-called that bull, and it came bailing right into me on its way outta there.

Did the opening day Stones' thing last year, too hot and way too many bugs. Thin hair on them rams too. Goin first week sept instead, always been a good time for us. Bringing a buddy of ours for his first sheep hunt, hope we can find him one!

I know Stones are popular, but I'm surprised how many people have opening day trips lined up.

I guess I gotta step my game up!

Yup, you're right. I would only be "looking" for an elk, but actually hunting for a moose in the lower 7B areas.

I am torn... Am invited up to a buds place in 3 for the early archery season but my LEH moose is a couple days later. I have told the wife I need to leave a few days early for my LEH but I don't know if she's buying it lol.
