wondering how bad the weather can be in Oct? This is a hike in hunt Murphy's Law keeps pushing our hunt further into the fall.

It's the mountains, one never knows but I have seen 15-20" of snow in October. Bring a good 4 season tent and couple inches of snow makes spotting sheep a hell of a lot easier. Good Luck!

The mountains in October can get real ugly real quick like. As stated sheep are easier to spot in snow, but only if it's not blowing sideways...just go with a backup plan to hunt other species down low if weather pushes you off the mountains. Crampons, rope, and harnesses, with some idea how to use them may save your life.
Not my favourite time to hunt in the mountains, but if that's the only time I can go, I do!

And then it warmed up and stayed fairly snow free until early Nov. Each year varies. If you are well prepared it can be a very fun hunt,,,,no people, definitely no bugs, no problem preserving meat...biggest down side on the shorter days. I would camp at timberline and venture in alpine during the day.

I shot my ram Sept 28 2013, we spent the four previous days in a tent from heavy rainfall and snow up high. We were equipped and knew what we were getting into, four-season hillebergs, heavy down bags and Crampons were in all our packs and we had a blast. The day we came through the pass we had to go through to get to our Lake to go home the snow was past our waist.

If I go this year it will be the first week of October and there will be snow. Oh I almost forgot you can forget about going ultralight that time of year.

Which year?

Last year, 2/3rd week of Sept. Ultralight was not a problem at that time

Region 6 stretches a long way north. Farther north you go the earlier you can expect snow above timberline. If you are going north of Mediadin Junction in October, it is almost a guarantee you will be hunting in snow at elevations above timberline.
