Hi there! I have been lucky enough (first LEH in 5 years) to draw a 7-08 Antlerless Elk draw on private land. I was hoping for some direction and insight as to contact s for land owner permission. I have contacted the CO and have been given some great advice.(which is greatly appreciated. Those guys are busy and didn't have to email back) Ie. Cold call from the phone book. Post an ad on Kijiji or local paper. And contact Cattleman s association. I was hoping for some further advice or direction. Thanks for your help!

Hey man! I have heard that is a really tough tag to fill. But I think ya cold calling and scouting/door knocking is your best bet, then when you get permission , hope that the elk are there .

cheers

I have never seen an elk down there but they are there. I do powerline right of way work down there and homeowners I have met have complained about elk in there hay. Talk to some of them that have property along the hydro steel towers through their property.

hope and pray that it is cold and snowy! with our hay crops not being very good due to drought farmers will be watching their hay stashes closely. Knock on doors, post ads, etc, but its a tough go! Good luck, I wish you well! Moosin

Contact the Dunkley mill. I've seen plenty of elk in their fields. That would classify as private yes?

I've had private property elk draws and looking up cattlemans or farmers associations is a good place to start

Haven't seen an elk in a farmers field for years around there.

Only in the summer!

Since they put that new barn up on Hatfields a few years ago, and now clean the fields right up, not much hangs out there in the fall/winter.

OP
Knock on doors, they're pretty good there for giving permission.

Saw them behind Dunkley a few times ..... cow/calf
Called in a bull north of Dunkley ....
There were trail cameras around ....
Up behind Hixon to the east, there's a gravel pit with moose carcass's (possibly road kills?) ........ lots of vocal wolves at night. Used the 'Abe & Sons' elk bugle ...... wolves shut up, like they'd never heard that sound before ??

I think I know why I was lucky enough to draw this tag now... Ha ha. No one else put in for it cause the elk are gone. JK. Well I'm up for putting in the ground work before hand.
