Hey Guys,

I recently picked up an older Bushnell scopechief 3x9x40. I looks like an older scope made in Japan during the 80's. This particular model comes with what's called a "prismatic rangefinder"
and a "bullet drop compensator". Basically you are suppose to aim a target and then dial in the bullet drop compensator to match the yards displayed by the rangefinder.

I was was wondering if anyone out there used one of these scopes back in the day? If so, did anyone actually use any of the dials or did you find them more of a gimmick? Anyone that actually owned one and could provide some tips or tricks it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't comment on the bullet drop compensator because my Scopechief never had that feature. It was a brand new 1.5-5 made in the late 80's, which I had mounted on my Ruger 77 .300WM. That was when I was young and never knew about the importance of mounting a quality scope on rifles. For years, I thought my Ruger was inaccurate until I got a new Bausch and Lomb 2.5-10 for it. All of a sudden the rifle would shoot 3/4 inch groups.

i had a fixed 4x 40mm scopechief on my savage 99 308. It had the BDC and a 308 dial. I used 180 grain and that BDC was accurate dialing from 100 to 250 yds. Never had an issue with it.

I had one. The bullet drop compensator worked not too bad. It is a little generic. Not the best scope but I think it is very good for the price.
