There are elk in region 8, most people will not readily give up their own spots so easily.
Your best to put some time in to find them on your own. Start with google earth and asking around to non hunters who live or spend time in the area you want to check out.
It took me 4 years to find a good area for elk. I will not even take one of my best hunting buddies there because he was too lazy to come help me look for them in the off seasons.
When I scout there now I only take non hunting friends who have a poor sense of direction as company:)
true story.

Well guys I hear what you are saying...and I really didn't expect much different but thought I'd give it a try. I have my #1 elk area already but .......these forest fires got me to thinkin that I should have a "backup plan" in case I get shut out of my area come Sept 1...
it's all good, I got some time left to scout my own self and will be doin it for sure....
cheers

Pretty sure elk doesn't open until the 10th in region 8 but i'm sure you would have checked before goin. Deer open the first if you're a bow hunter though. nice that you saw some elk while scouting. good luck

Went exploring one day with the family on the Placer rd and took the fork to stay close to the river and headed east and saw tons of sign ,rubs, beds, fresh crap...it seemed the thicker the bush we hiked the more sign we saw..didn't see any elk but heard some hooves pounded ground...
