Hmmm nope it was a 25 year old electric trolling motor..no pump..
The formula is 5 pounds of thrust for every 200 pounds..
I have a 12 food lund so was looking at 40 or 45# thrust..the minkota traxxis seems like its the best quality..special circuit board for max usage of power, lifetime graphite type shaft..36 inch shaft..
Thinking 45 # on low just to get on ,,,, off the lake...I have honda 9.9 hp for bigger lakes..
Friend used to work at slorting hoods store..recomended this make and model..
My 25 year old $100 unit was only 28 pound thrust did fine..

so with all my gear ill only need and the weight of the boat ill only need 15lbs thrust. i was thinking 30lbs thrust. just because its lighter. i only want it for trolling lakes. i have a 9.9 mercury to get around

My old 14 footer had a gas motor to get from A to B then my 30lb thrust electric for trolling was usually on speed 1 or 2 maybe 3 if slight head wind.
sold boat but kept electric for my little zodiac.

I have a 45# minn Kota with no problems. 14 foot lowe gear 2 guys head wind you might have to crank it to 2. No issues with motor love it and awful nice to be able to talk normally to your passenger. Also have a 9.8 merc for the bigger lakes 25 years how can you complain that's swsome.

Hmmm hot water tank lasted 22 years
Forced air furnace lasted 24 years
Roof lasted 27 years
Electric trolling motor lasted 25 years..

Having them all fail, break in 10 days..priceless..lol

40lb Minn Kota chugs along just fine on my 16' Aluminum. The boat/engine along with 2 of us, dog, and all gear is about 1000 lbs.

40-45lb is lots on a 12'er, you'll have plenty of jam.

I have a 12 ft tin boat and the 30lb Minn Kota does fine for me. Also have a 9.9 I bought mine off craigslist. I paid 70.00 The seller wanted 125.00 but I said I can get a brand new one for 100.00 with free shipping. I showed him the web page and he couldn't believe it as he paid almost 200.00 I says they are making them in China now so prices dropped.

HAHA definitely not priceless you probably have a whole list of quotes to put a number to it all. All good lifespans but it is crappy for all to go like that at the same time..

Nice to get all these things tidied up before fall though eh Steve. Expensive for sure but feels good once it's done. Got your first lake in mind for the new motor?
