I'll bet that fuscia coloured beadhead would have worked very well in
the lake I had great fishing at near Logan Lake a month ago!

I was just going to suggest adding a couple "charteuse" patterns.

I was just going to suggest adding a couple "charteuse" patterns. This is the only acceptable reason for any of us to know what "chartreuse" looks like.

Long tail flies are going to give you short strikes.

Hmmm..lol..aint that the truth...I did score some chartreuse at surplus herbies so will tie up some tommorrow.
Yes thats true about long bodies and short strikes..however..I was thinking...always a weak point with me..that kokanee not only need vibrant colors but also movement..we always used a willow leaf on okanagan lake..was hoping for some movement in the long bodies?
Thats the wildest colors I could find...even used polar bear..
Cheers

I tie some "magnum" leech patterns with a trailer hook. Could be an option if legal where you're fishing.

True, but sometimes flies with long free flowing tails/wings are the only ones fish will hit. Better short strikes than know strikes at all.

Very Nice Flies ! I find they like a little red ! The top right second one down looks like the bomb ! I would drag that real slow with a small 4 inch X 2 inch flasher in front with it about 4 feet behind ! If I was trollin and whammo in my skillet ! What works for me really well for kokanees, one of my favorite eating fish next to a brook trout is trolling with the small flasher with a double wedding band and a piece of worm. I am not the best with a fly rod but they sure look great to drag and throw around !

Hmmm was hoping to just use fast sinking flyline and erratic retrieve or row the boat back and forth zig zag...damn something there has to attract even just one kokanee..lol

Being ******ed. .oooops I meant retired..I have fly tying time..
Thanks

Kinda like pink salmon on the fly, anything pink seems to work.

I've always had most luck on a size 8 or 10 red spratley. If trolling, go a little quicker than you would for rainbows and do a S-pattern so your fly is continually moving up and down in the water column. Good luck!

Red and pink Comet flies have worked for me.

I've had good luck on a Golden Pheasant on a full sink, all the flyline plus 1/2 the backing out. Usually get hits after an inside corner.

Hmmm Interesting..all fly line..sinking..plus backing on inside turn..means pretty damn deep..?
30 feet plus?

Good information..thanks

Yup! Where I fish them, the water is about 40 to 60 feet deep. The drop then rise triggers the strike.

They'll be shallower just after ice off. We catch most at 35 feet in the winter (hopefully, our lake will open again for a bit of winter jigging).
