Morning Bear--and age

Went out for a day trip in region 3 and this bear was in the second cut I checked at about 8 am. He was feeding and moving along quite motivated along the tree line at the back of the cut about 150yrd away. He thought he was alone and kept moving along that tree line. He ran down into the trees for about 20 yrds before expiring after one 300WM shot broadside. It was a 20 minute day hunt. The happy part of the this meat bear story is that while I wanted to get him out of the sun asap and had a bit of a time getting him on my atv. He was very heavy and wasn't cooperating. Most other bears I've been able to flop up onto the atv, but not this one. I think since I'm closer to 50 than 40 that that may play a big part. I really didn't want to process him out there with all the sun and heat but it had to be lightened up so I began and removed about half the meat. Good news followed. I noticed a hunter walking the same trail I shot the bear from. I gave him a wave. Fella from HBC came down to me with a smile and in 2 secs had that bear on wheels. He measured 6' skinned out nose to tail without a stretch...so he probably comes in around a live 5'1/2 thanks for reading
