The title is a bit of a giveaway but first I will start with a bit of background. I have always been an outdoors fan, with fishing and hiking being passions from a very young age and got my CORE and PAL as soon I was 18. Since then I have done some small game and duck hunting and a fair bit of shooting, with more of an interest/focus on long range. But last year was my first year of big game hunting and with considerable effort put in throughout spring and fall, for bear and deer respectively, nothing came to fruition and I finished off my year without cutting a tag. But I did see some incredible country, met some great people and learned countless new things!
Now onto the good stuff! This season started off well with some good shed hunting and being a part of my little brother (Sylus) getting his first big game animal, being a great boar.(http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?117562-Spring-Bear-Down!&highlight=sylus) It always sucks when the younger bro shows you up....but this past May long weekend me and a friend from University who only just got his CORE 2 weeks ago decided we would head to the hills to chase bears. We went to an area neither of us had ever been to before but with always being open to new country and adventure we went for it. A late arrival on Friday night led to a terrible "sleep" if you could call it that in the truck. Saturday we were up and putting the glass to work and got to watch a beautiful light cinnamon sow with 2 cubs, one being a dark chocolate and the other a light cinnamon as well.

She is the bottom and cub #2 is behind the tree top left.

Cub #2 is out just enough to show the colour, very similar to momma. The chocolate cub looks much darker in the photo than what he actually was.
By the time lunch rolled around we had only seen the sow and cubs but did see 20 mulies which is always exciting! The afternoon started with a bit of a hunt on foot and ended up in the haunt of a very busy beaver!

This was just a sample of his handiwork.
After the hike it was time to relocate a bit with the truck and continue hunting from there. So we were not even 1 minute into our drive and there he was, standing on the left of road, about 60 yards away, giving the truck the stink eye and not backing down. I looked at him, saw a good sized head, solid forearms with head and ears not swiveling at all. I then was confident that it was a solo bear (no cubs) and there was a good chance it was a boar. I got out as quickly and quietly as I could, loaded two rounds into my 7mm rem mag, took a seat, said a little prayer for calmness and accuracy, I lined him up behind his shoulder and pulled the trigger....and that's exactly what I did, I PULLED the trigger and sent a clean miss over his back. But this guy was not backing down, he ran up the bank to the left and TOWARDS me. He stops above me, eying me up and not backing down, not 25 yards away. I racked the empty shell out and ran the live one home, took a deep breath, SQUEEZED the trigger and let my 7mm bark again. DOWN HE GOES! But out came that attitude again, he thrashed and crashed down the hill as I backed up towards the truck and yelled to my buddy to grab his gun. As the bear goes to get up in our direction I tell my buddy to hit him again and with a mercy shot it was all over. Shaking and buzzing with adrenaline I cut my tag and waited 15 mins to approach, with loaded gun in hand I made sure he was done. My first "dirt nap" had been given out! A nice black bear boar!
