What's the one thing you can't do without on your hunt? I'm not talking about rifles, knives and binoculars. I'm talking about the little things. Maybe it's a specific rifle sling, or one of those front pouches for binoculars. Maybe it's hand warmers? Tell me! What is it?

Boots. Can't do anything with shitty footwear.

Lightweight rain jacket if your main shell isn't at least water-resistant.

Tuque and gloves for later in the year. A nice warm morning might turn into a wet snowy afternoon.

Haha......I agree but I one up the TP component to INCLUDE baby wipes.

I would add; also an extra layer of packable clothing plus I carry those little heat packs. I have a mid-layer nylon/quilted Patagonia jacket that packs down into a tiny cinch sack which is VERY handy to have. Nothing makes a day more miserable than if you get chilled; well maybe getting shot would be worse  but I hate being cold.

Compass too.

well, ive went on overnighter hunting outings with simply granola bars, water, and a couple cans of ravioli.
all i need is determination.
but i'd say my camelback little pack is one of my best enjoyed accessories.
small, holds everything i need for the day, and a sip of water at the ready hands-free.

I NEVER go away from my transport, even to dump, without a carefully thot-out, prepared total emergency and first aid kit. I keep this in a small pack and transfer it into whatever hunting pack I use a given day, it is THE NO 1 item for me.

63 years this month of usually very intense and longterm wilderness experience-smarts.

Caution, care and ready to back off a situation that I consider dangerous and these have increased with my age and the lessening capability that is a result thereof.

Item(s) for this wanted????

Two very strong, stupid and obedient pack guys who can do a bull elk on their backs for 12 hrs, per day seven days in a row!!! ;)

LOL it is amazing...you would think people would want to have at least some bush smarts when it comes to navigation and finding ones way around...

Making a lot of assumptions on that one.

I carry a GPS at all times and it is an amazing tool with far more capabilities than just navigating and finding my way around. I can mark interesting points and later transcribe them to google earth. Thus I can see patterns in game sightings and sign and get a big picture as to how it relates to terrain and landscape. It tells me how far I hike and how fast I move, details rise and fall in elevation, gives me coordinates to pass onto friends . Years of hunting data at my finger tips at any moment. Rarely do I use it to navigate except for predicting what is ahead and unseen in terms of steep cliffs etc.

I love the GPS and what it does. One of the best tools I have ever purchased. Just because we carry them does not mean we rely on them or are incapable of navigating and have no "bush smarts". If you don't have one, get one.

Ok I'll bite. Most places I hunt I can find may way out even if I get off the trail of away from my route. I've been in the bush a while and the terrain is pretty predictable; Usually head downhill or downriver. That assumes you can walk.... My issue is what happens if I can't move. A compass won't help me then but a spot or Inreach will. So I am now packing along a battery dependent item to cut down the time for help to arrive if I need it.

You know the old saying AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY!:D

Anyhow I love the taste of apples, unfiltered apple juice, apple pie , anything made with apples.
Spartan, Granny Smith & Gala are my favourites. A great, very nutritious & healthy fruit to take along on a hike/hunt for a quick snack.. Apple Jack's are my favorite cereal. Apple wine is very good. If you ever get a chance. Pick up a bottle in Dewdney. Komodie wines. Fritz makes the best fruit wines. Also try the Himilayan black berry wine.

I do agree, a GPS is a great tool for marking locations etc...one of my best friends uses it all the time, and laughs at me cause I just remember all mine with land-marks etc..I just give people a hard time who have no idea how to navigate by any of the old-school methods, and because they don't practice any of the old-school methods, they have not developed a 'bush common sense' for finding their way around, little things that you learn by practicing the conventional methods... I also like the challenge of using all the old-school methods...

Bingo!, thats why I like the HuntBuddy app, being able to toggle between maps is sweet... using the Geo Topo map in new territory, lets me connect up to old logging roads I would never have known were in my vicinity. Either to find game movement or an easy hike back to camp..

Also carry cotton balls dipped in melted par Wax, along with tiny bag of kindling, and a high end hatchet....

And the list goes on....
