So since hunting wolves is or can be difficult at the best of times, what about hunting them at night?
Would it be possible to have the Regs changed to accommodate this?
Having never hunted them, I imagine drawing them in, under cover of darkness, would be a different story?
With todays technology in night vision goggles / scopes this would actually work?

Just havin fun on a non hockey Saturday night...:-)

Of my few encounters with Wolves, two have been pre-dawn in the morning. My gut feeling was the wolves had the advantage of sight and were acting as naturally/efficiently as they would during the day. I simply hoped for the best that they would move on without incident and they did.

It's hard enough to catch wolves out and about, the cover of darkness would just add to the difficulty in my opinion. I doubt night vision gear is as easy to use as people think.

I don't think the reg or laws will get changed. Its a safety thing you can't see well enough at night to shoot. Even with night vision

They allow night hunting for Coyote, and ferrel hog, in a few States..I believe it has to be on private ranch land..
Seen a show on Wild TV, hunting Hog with night scopes...
They were very successful!

Hunting at night for predators is allowed in many parts of the world. It probably should be allowed here, but it's unlikely to happen. Too many prejudices and false claims about "safety" and "unethical"

It has happened here, but only under permit by predator control specialists. There should be a few more permits.

Predator Control Specialist? Equals CO?

They also allow concealed carry and hunting with handguns. I don't see either happening here in the near future if ever

Wolves are managed through 1080 and helicopters.

Getting rid of a few problem wolves for a rancher can happen with hunting/trapping, but at a landscape scale trapping isn't very effective - hunting isn't effective at all.

Really want to Eco freaks lose their minds have the government suggest using 1080! To me that is the only truly effective way to manage wolves but I doubt we'll be seeing much of it being used any time soon.

Strychnine is the one that moves through the 'food chain', 1080 is a pretty specific poison.

It was only a year ago there were plenty of people on here saying aerial predator control would 'never happen.'

The 'Eco freaks' have already lost their minds......

Agreed 100%.
Glad to see you got it!

Hunting anything at night would be dangerous I would think..hard to see the landscape at night and to know the exact trajectory of your bullet...

Some FNs on the island have won court battles to allow them to hunt at night.

Hunting at night is done very effectively and safely in many countries around the world, if it was dangerous why are there not loads of natives laying in hospital every year with gunshot wounds?

IIRC, they got caught pitlamping, and told the judge a bs story about their ancestors using torches, so the judge set a precedent saying that was all ok.

True they have and I realize 1080 is essentially canine specific. It's just as soon as you throw out the word poison they automatically think its an agonizing death like in the movies. And I hope I'm wrong and we start seeing it used again.

Walking through a park along a river in a major city in Australia I saw signs that said "1080 Poison in area. Keep all dogs on-leash and on trail".

And they are likely more "urban greenie" than us.

A friend from Australia told me 1080 was used over there, and it may not be as specific as some say on here unless you mean it kills animals. He has also seen things killed from it and says it is not a nice thing to see, and this was from eating something that had already been killed by it.

Yup, pathetic really, another judge with no balls.
