buddy has a kowa, looks good beside swaro. That model didn't seem to have the same field of view but was good glass particularly given the price.

I sell Kowa as you know, and if you are in the Victoria area you can come check out an 883 for yourself. BTW - The new 25x60 eye piece provides an the added field of view. Hard to beat the 883 at any price or brand name.

The first Kowa scope I used was back in about 1983 and I thot then and still think that it was/is a very good instrument. I was still working in occupations, where I used optics constantly all day, every day and I have used a lot of different scopes and binos.

From, 1967 to date, I have purchased Zeiss and Leica binos and a B&L, Leupold and finally a Leica spotter, I will now buy only a larger Leica or Swaro, while currently preferring Leica binos.

I am looking hard at the Swaro 90 mm system as shown in that review, but, wont spend that kind of $$$$ unless I move back to the Kootenays as I cannot use it here in Abby enough to justify the cost.

YMMV, if you can pack one and learn to use it well, the large spotters do offer some real advantages in hunting.

i have the 77... all the research on real test leads to Birding forums and magazines...the 883/4 prominar tops the tests ALL the time....hunters get to focused on "hunting" brands some times...like boots, there are GREAT hiking boots that would probably be better than a lot of "hunting" boots..

I'd buy one! get the new zw11 eye piece..wide angle one? supposed to be amazing!!

Magazine tests can be factual, or, somewhat biased and are not always the ultimate authority on anything, IME.

I prefer actual use of gear to make a comparison and like to test optics before buying. I have found that, for example, a German Zeiss 4x I had did NOT give me the results in field use that the 3 Zeiss Conquest 4x scopes now on 3 of my 4 rifles in 9.3x62 give me. While the WG models optics are fine, the eye relief, so crucial in a hunting scope is far too critical and makes the scope a PITA to use.

Your point about boots is well taken, I have posted as much here several times, it is *horses for courses*, where any gear is concerned.

I have the Kowa tsn 774 and compare against my buddies Swarovski 65hd, the kowa can resolve antler points on mule deer farther out and it's noticeably brighter. I plan on upgrading to the new prominar wide angle 25-60x eye piece which is supposed to have even sharper resolution, wider field of view, and consistent eye relief.
