Just wondering what everybody's dream hunt is? Something you haven't done yet, or if you have conquered it, what was it?
My buddy wants to get a Sitka Blacktail on the Queen Charlotte's, and mine I think involves a big moose up North.

New Zealand red stag would be amazing but I doubt that will ever happen for me. My realistic dream hunts would be rocky mtn big horn, stone sheep which I am trying for the first time this year and dall sheep in the yukon.

Cape buffalo in African #1 (but probably 10 years away)
Rocky mnt Bighorn hunt this year
If I draw a Desert sheep permit this year, that would be even better
Wolverine would be wicked
Muskox seems interesting
I could go on and on. and on.

A rosy elk hunt on the Island-#1 I dont have enough money or luck for that one!

A big Yukon/ Alaska moose- #2 Could and will make this one happen

A Saskatchewan Whitetail- #3 Could happen, but will settle for a northern BC Whitetail hunt!

I could go on, but these are just a few!

BIG Elk, in the Kootenays, will try again this year.....I KNOW where they are, but, old age and severe injuries, still try tho'.

Blue and Ruffed Grouse hunting in the Kootenays like we had when I started 51 years ago, with a FINE SXS, maybe a Bertuzzi, Westley DL, Kreighoff Essencia SL, or a Filli. Rizzini SL 20 bore-28" choked .005 and .020" over .629" bores with a Churchill rib and SH-SP.-DTs.

Maybe sheep, but, I never really caught that bug.

Ive been very lucky to have hunted all over BC,3 trips to Africa,,and down to Montana. But Im getting older and would be happy to stay in BC, and hunt without being told I cant hunt crown land because someones ancestor hunted there,,or the Gov has sold the "guiding rights" to a forien investor, and I have to watch my camp,,or ride my quad without big brother telling me to have insurance and a helmet,,Guess Im jaded,,but I figure at my age Im allowed to be.Sorry to be negative,,but I remember what its like to be free.

Every hunt I go on is a dream hunt really. I dream about it. It's something I want to acomplish. I make a plan, and gather as much information I can to make it happen. Then I go do it. I love adventure. I rarely hunt the same spots if I can help it. There is just always something else over the next hill.

I have to ask, what is your earliest memory? At what age was that memory?
I ask because that 6 month old child is not going to remember a thing, not even the report of the gun. Although loud noises may have an adverse effect later.
Personally, I don't condone taking a small child out without another adult along. You're marching about, packing a kid that has no means of defending for themselves. If their solitary protector is incapacitated in some manner and cannot carry on, so goes it for the kid.
The motive appears to be that the hunter has a day off but is consigned to child minding. "Hey, I don't want to waste a day off, I'll take the kid with me."
There is a time to take them, solitary hunting is not the time. When they are older, have memory and can get about on their own, that is the time.

I totally agree, do not think that kids under about ten belong on hunting trips, they are not able to comprehend much of what's going on at an earlier age in many cases.

My son was 4 last fall when I had him with me and shot an immature moose. I had three full days of non stop questions about that moose and what we do with it. It was the most curiousity I have seen in him, ever. I can assure you he had full comprehension of it by the time we were done. The earlier they are exposed to it the more it becomes part of life, by the time they are 10 they've already been taught what's cute and cuddly shouldn't end up on the dinner table.

I guess you missed the point of solo hunting with a child. Not to be a smart ass, but you seem to have trouble discerning that part.
It is not the same as going camping.
Going camping is usually a family affair with more than one adult. My kids were part of that process at a tender age, but hunting forays were reserved for an older age.
Whats the difference not much I think. The difference is the high risk of the child suffering the same fate as you when it goes awry. You have no immediate backup. You have to think outside the box.

How many hunting accidents(not just firearms related) do we have in BC per year? How many vehicular accidents in the cities do we have each year? Kid is safer in the bush with Dad than during his drive to daycare.

If you are taking young kids on hunts you can pretty much guarantee it's going to be a road hunt. How dangerous is that?

Lol thank you SSS... Jager. .. you sound like my girlfriend... your chances of whatever fate you have I'm the bush are more unlikely than being it town on a daily basis. .. if you shelter your kids to this extent they will be going to the grocery store for meat for a very long time either that or going to my kids place as the wild game grocery store lol ;)

Does this look like road hunting to you? Mr. Weber even states it a walk about.

However, it's a free world (so far) and one can do much as they please. However, come the day that some kid perishes due to some unforeseen event, the parent better perish too as I will be all over that dude like shit on the kid's blanket whether the person responsible is dead or alive.

What I see here is a proud father, And a great hunter. He has taken his daughter out and she gets to smell , See, and Hear whats going on. Looks like he went on a dream hunt with his daughter. I have taken my daughter on hunts when she was young. And every time I loaded up the truck, She wanted to go, When she was five she asked a lot of questions. She also told me she hates fishing. Heck my father used to take me fishing on his shoulders. He didn't like taking me sometimes. He said I ate all the worms he had for fishing. Mr Weber. Keep enjoying life with your daughter. Mine is seventeen now and told me a few weeks a go. That I am going to be a grandfather. Doctors estimated birth time , November 25, 27. Would be nice if it was on the 27th. Then I could celebrate mine and hers on the same day.

I have taken all of my kids hunting with me from early ages 2 and up, some of my most memorable time in the field involve my kids. My oldest used to go in a kiddo carry back pack while I did 3-d archery tournaments. Take a kid hunting it is never too early.

Now, about the real topic, Dream Hunt. I think my dream hunt would be for a Tian Shan Wapiti in Kazakhstan. I am intrigued by that area of the world. Ancestral thing I suppose.

One of the best pictures I've ever seen:)

I totally agree, do not think that kids under about ten belong on hunting trips, they are not able to comprehend much of what's going on at an earlier age in many cases.

some of my best memories I have hunting was with my dad and grandfather before I was ten years old. I remember dad dragging me along for mule deer at probably six or seven, he would give me pointers, give me shit for making too much noise, how to always watch the wind, how to find sign, where the deer feed, bed, rut etc, always ask me what direction the truck was at different times of the day. being out at such a young age is what has given me the passion and knowledge I have for hunting today. to say any age is too young should kept to yourself. most of us are grown ups here and can decide what age we want to take our kids out with us. I live the dream with two big hunts each fall now elk and mule deer, but a hunt for stones is high on the list!
