New to compound but my Excalibur crossbow got within 30-35 fps of advertised...my bowtech experience is 258-260 vs advertised 330, while I'm mostly concerned about accuracy, I would've expected a little faster

64 lb draw
28.5" draw length
350 gr carbon express arrow with 100 gr field point plus insert (haven't weighed them yet)

Is this typical of what I should expect from setup? What is everybody else shooting?

my crossbow hasn't been touched since I got my compound, wish I got one years ago

I have a pse drive lt, 29.5 draw lenth 68lbs 400 grain arrow shoots 305 fps. My ibo is 336 fps.
Draw weight and lenth have a big affect of arrow speed.
Get your arrows true weight and you will have your answer.

IBO speed is 30" draw length, 70lbs weight, 350gr arrow and nothing on the string. unless you shoot that you wont get near it in speed. My old bow PSE Omen Pro 70lbs 28" draw 405gr was only going 328-330fps and ibo is 366

Resident hunters got the lions share of the fps allocation which explains why you are down 20%....sorry couldnt help myself

bookmarked, handy website...I'll weigh my arrows soon

sounds like I am shooting a little heavy for my draw weight? but still fall with within the 6-8 grain per pound guideline I was suggested to follow, I'd like to try a lighter weight arrow down the road but pretty happy with how I'm shooting, so I'll stick with it for now

the bow that I have that comes close to the posted speed is a Obsession Nightmare. posted speed is 350 fps so with a 27 in draw 300 gr arrows and 60 lbs I am getting 320 fps .
I have a king cobra posted speed is close to 370 with the same arrows same draw weight I don`t get close to the Nightmare.

If you are setting up your bow for hunting don't get caught up in speed and concern more about penetration. Most hunters use arrows a lot heavier than what was achieved to reach these speeds.

There is a reason trad hunters shoot heavy arrows it is to achieve greater penetration with their equipment. If you look at bowhunters who purse dangerous game they will be shooting heavy arrows not tooth picks.

Accuracy kills speed just gets you to the target or near it faster lol

I know a bit about bows:grin: Those are my 5gr per lb 3d arrows that's what ibo speeds are based on. I like my hunting arrows over 450 gr:grin:

Ok ... advertised speed is 30 inch draw ... lose about 10 fps per lost of inch ... at 70 pounds draw weight,,, lose about 2-3 fps per loss of draw weight ... shooting a 350 grain arrow with nothing on the string (no peep or anything)

Your arrows I suspect weight in at about 425 grains .. give or take (the 350 written on your arrow shaft has nothing to do with weight ... it has to do with the flexibility of your arrow... look for a GPI# (Grains per Inch)
Your inset is probally about 13 grains and so it your nock ... depending on your flecthing that could be 12 grains to 50 grains total

at about 425 or 430 grains at 64# ... at 28.5" ... your bow is well within spec and is actually preforming quite well

it's advertising.
kinda like vehicles claiming this and that but it's not actually that in reality.

Long gone are the days when my PSE Laser Mag shooting 2020's at 200 f/s were considered state of the art...

my arrows all weigh between 457-458 grains

I get it's only advertising, but just made me ask since my crossbow get pretty close to advertised speed

because a crossbow doesnt adjust draw weight or draw lenth ... the only varible is the weight of the bolt unless you put some silencers or some sort on the string
